Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said newly crowned welterweight world titleholder Manny Pacquiao will “definitely” fight again in the spring and said “I give it 75 percent” that he will face Floyd Mayweather in a rematch.

Pacquiao, elected to the Philippines Senate in May, came out of a brief retirement to handily outpoint Jessie Vargas on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas to regain the welterweight belt he lost to Mayweather by unanimous decision in May 2015 in their record-shattering mega fight that generated a record $600 million in total revenue.

Mayweather so far has remained in the retirement he announced after beating Andre Berto in September 2015, but the signs are there that it may not last much longer. Mayweather showed up with his daughter at ringside Saturday to watch Pacquiao, who invited him to the fight.

Floyd Mayweather was seated Christine Michael Jersey ringside with his daughter for Manny Pacquiao’s welterweight title challenge against Jessie Vargas on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Making the first fight dragged on for a tedious five years of “will they or won’t they.” A second fight wouldn’t take nearly as long to put together if Mayweather wants it, Arum said.

“Floyd came to the fight and he was very Christine Michael Sr Jersey friendly with [Top Rank president] Todd [duBoef] and some of our staff,” Arum told ESPN on Monday. “Now, that doesn’t mean that the fight will happen, but if it does, it won’t take a long time to make because the animosity that was there before the first fight is gone. There’s no more animosity between the camps.”

Arum has since settled a $100 million antitrust lawsuit he filed against Al Haymon, Mayweather’s adviser.

“It was so tense last time, but it won’t be that way now because everyone can get along,” said Arum, who promoted Mayweather for most of his career before they had a falling out that Haymon was in the middle of.

“Like everyone else, I’m guessing there will be a rematch. He did come to the fight,” Arum said. “I give it 75 percent. Do I know it’s gonna happen? No. Do I know if Floyd wants the fight? No. I know nothing more than the public knows at this point and what I observed.”

There are just a handful of quality receiving tight ends in the league. Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates used to be the gold standard, anomalies in a league that used tight ends primarily as blockers. As teams realized what an asset a sure-handed tight end could be, it changed the game.

The difference between Dan Carpenter Authentic Womens Jersey Gonzalez and Gates and Rob Gronkowski is that Gronk is also a powerful blocker. He’s not only the best tight end in the game today, he’s also the most complete player at the position, whether Bills linebacker Zach Brown believes he is or not.

“As far as blocking, no, I Doug Flutie Authentic Womens Jersey do not think he’s one of the best,” Brown said. “Bennett is probably a better blocker.”

Bill Belichick disagrees. Belichick said Gronkowski is one of the best blocking tight ends he’s ever coached, and that Gronkowski takes pride in it.

“There are a lot of plays Rob comes to the sideline and he’s more excited about a block he made on the series than a catch he made, which a lot of tight ends I’ve coached I wouldn’t put in that category,” Belichick said.

Gronkowski passed former Patriots wide receiver Stanley Morgan in New England’s record books with his 69th career touchdown, and at age 27, he should have plenty of career ahead of him to establish some other high marks.

Again, what’s key about this category is the number of games it’s taken Gronkowski to get there. It took 270 games for Gonzalez and 109 for Winslow. It’s entirely possible that Gronkowski could match Winslow next week, in his 87th game.

Bills coach Rex Ryan acknowledged Gronkowski’s skill.

“He’s pretty danged good,” Ryan said. “He’s a phenomenal player and he’s been that way for a long time.”

With his age and the pace Gronkowski has set, he’s likely to continue to be that way for a long time, too.

The Celtic fans had been singing incessantly from before the first whistle and their afternoon looked like being one party, but County had other ideas. made two good runs forward and got a shot away on goal at the second attempt, but the gave Forster a comfortable save. The comeback started the 30th minute with a spectacular first-time Johnny Unitas Authentic Womens Jersey effort from Munro. Celtic initially cleared Iain Vigurs free-kick but Mihael Kovacevic returned a high ball into box. Kelvin won the aerial challenge but his header fell for Munro and the defender unleashed a left-footed strike into the top corner past a helpless Forster.

County were level six minutes later when Vigurs nutmegged Mulgrew on the right wing and skipped round Joe Ledley before hanging a cross to the far post which Josh Ferguson Authentic Womens Jersey held up the wind. Morrow and McGeouch challenged for the ball and the County forward reacted quickest to force the ball home from close range. Stokes should have put Celtic back front with the last kick of the half but he drilled wide from 15 yards after Miku had found him unmarked. Vigurs curled a free-kick not far wide before the second half settled into early rhythm of County defending but breaking dangerously. The hosts had a let-off after Beram Kayal played Hooper through. Fraser palmed out the striker’s shot and it bounced off the head of Kovacevic and off the top of the bar. But had a bigger escape after making a mess of his header back to Forster following ‘s deep cross. The Nigerian set up Martin but the County midfielder snatched at his and hit it straight at Forster. Celtic were finding it difficult to break County down and their fans were much quieter as Kovacevic, Kettlewell and Munro all hit ambitious efforts wide as County gained the ascendancy. Wohlfarth had a great with 10 minutes left when Lawson played the ball through. The got there before Forster but guided the ball just wide of the goal. Hooper turned and shot just past but that was a rare foray forward for Celtic and the hosts snatched a famous victory when Wohlfarth reached a ball by Evangelos Ikonomou to head past the onrushing Forster.

New York Islanders scored a pair of first-period goals and the United States never trailed a 3 World Championship victory over Slovenia the Czech Republic. Detroit Red Wings prospect Larkin had no shots and even plus-minus rating 12 of ice time. Our line has been working well for quite a few games now, said a story on the IIHF website. I ‘t know what the secret is – it would be nice if we did – but I think we’ve played well from the get-go to create chances and capitalize on them. When you get a few early goals you build that chemistry. opened the scoring 4 into the game and made it 2 with 3 left the first period. Slovenia cut the deficit half on a goal by Ales Music 6 into the second period before USA got insurance marker from Eichel of Boston University seconds into the third. assisted on Eichel’s goal, giving him six goals and three assists six games. “Am I as fast as Larkin or McDavid? Not even close,” Vanek said. “I never was and never will be. But I can read the game, I have hockey IQ — which, to me, is something that is leaving the game a little.”

The Red Wings have started 6-2-0, in large part because of veterans Vanek and Green. It’s important to note that while their even-strength save percentage and shooting percentage are near the top of the league, that won’t continue. Detroit controls only 45.6 percent Brandon Saad Jersey of its even-strength shot attempts, a rate that has to improve for it to keep winning. So, despite the early success, there are red flags for the Red Wings.

“There’s now a lottery. The first four picks are Cam Atkinson Jersey lottery picks. You can be the worst team in the league and get the fifth pick in the draft,” Holland said. “Each year, we go forward, it becomes more and more a parity league. Why is that? Players come out of the entry level and they go from entry-level contracts to $5-$6 million.”

The Red Wings signed Steve Ott, 34, to a one-year, $800,000 deal on July 1 in the hopes that the veteran would bring personality and spark to Detroit’s dressing room.

This isn’t the same system that that Penguins and Blackhawks had to navigate on the way to landing elite players — and neither are the contract structures.

The Red Wings have considered all that as they march forward. Their solution is to keep doing what they’ve always done: just keep winning. Draft well from the position in which you’re placed and make the kids earn the playing time.

Detroit signed Green last year, and he has seven points in eight games this season. Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said Green’s teammates are learning how to play to his strengths more, to take advantage of his skating.

Green said it took him half a season to get comfortable on a new team. Now, here he is.

“We’ve changed up a few things, but mostly it’s a confidence thing,” Green said. “We are detailed in our assignments, and it has shown this season.”

Both Holland and Blashill phoned Vanek when he was a free agent and made their pitch to get him to Detroit. They wanted him playing in front of the net. They loved the idea of another right-handed shot. They realize he’s not a guy who needs 18 minutes per game to put up points. Right now, he’s averaging 13:11, the lowest of his career. He has eight points in seven games. It’s been a great fit.

The New England Patriots won the AFC East last season for the seventh straight year, finishing with a 12-4 record and making it to the AFC Championship game. Now, though, the team is heading into training camp under the shadow of Tom Brady’s impending four-game suspension. This creates opportunities for another team, perhaps the New York Jets, to make a run for the division title.

The Jets finally settled their Jordan Norwood Authentic Womens Jersey quarterback controversy, bringing back Ryan Fitzpatrick on a one-year deal Wednesday. With their man back under center, they’ll aim to improve on an 10-6 campaign. The Buffalo Bills are also hoping to make the playoffs after a 16-year drought, while the Miami Dolphins are counting on Ryan Tannehill and the offense to take a step forward this season.

At the start of almost every season, Bills head Justin Simmons Authentic Womens Jersey coach Rex Ryan guarantees that his team will make the playoffs. But this year, the typically boisterous Ryan is taking a more subdued approach heading into training camp.

Perhaps Ryan has an interest in tampering down expectations: Club ownership reportedly gave him a playoff ultimatum in January, though he denies this is a make-or-break season. The Bills failed to gain traction last year, finishing 8-8 and forcing Ryan to admit he set expectations too high.

But with a healthy LeSean McCoy in the backfield and the much-improved Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, the Bills’ offense has a chance to be dynamic in 2016. Sammy Watkins finished up his sophomore campaign in impressive fashion, too, asserting himself as one of the best downfield threats in the game — if he can stay healthy.

One of the biggest questions facing the Bills this summer was whether star cornerback Stephon Gilmore would hold out. The good news for the Bills is that Gilmore said earlier in the week that he would show up to training camp.

Contract talks between Drew Brees and the Saints aren’t going anywhere. Saints VP and GM Mickey Loomis said Wednesday that Brees and the team “have not made any progress” on a contract extension. That’s probably because they haven’t even talked about it in three months. Brees has a stunning $30 million cap hit this season, which also happens to be the last year of his deal.

Brees is 37. The Saints need to make this happen so they can quickly try and fill in a team around him and make another run at the playoffs before Brees’ window closes. They could tag him next year, but because he’s already been tagged twice that would cost more than $43 million for a one-year deal.

If they don’t want to recommit to the Brees, it’ll be the best quarterback to hit free agency since the Colts cut Peyton Manning in 2012. Teams will be tripping over themselves to court him in March.

How about a little Friday morning football talk? Yes, there is real football to discuss, or at least something like it, the preseason form. We’ll have more analysis and overreaction to Thursday’s games, but here’s a quick rundown.

This Garoppolo kid might be okay.

Saints rookie Michael Thomas just keeps making amazing catches.

Tampa’s kicker may have gotten off to a Britton Colquitt Jersey rough start, but the defensive line looks ready to go. Jameis Winston looked like he’s been working on his footwork and mechanics during the offseason.

The Falcons won, but the starting Cam Johnson Jersey offense looked like they thought it was still June. Not backup QB Matt Schaub though, he was aces.

We know Washington’s offense is going to be fine, but Thursday’s game offered some hope for the defense, too.

“We have been approached by no fewer than 20 individuals who traveled to the game to participate and be ready to enjoy the game,” Avenatti told AP. “And unfortunately they did not have the opportunity to enjoy the game, and as a result lost a significant amount of money.”

Refunds are being granted for all ticketholders, but Avenatti says that’s not good enough for fans who were informed the game was off just a few hours before it was scheduled to begin.

“They could have offered what these fans paid for the tickets and to reimburse them for any expenses incurred,” Avenatti said. “The league has a history of being cheap with its fans.”

NFL executive Troy Vincent accepted responsibility for the disaster, but until the league is also willing to accept responsibility for the travel costs those who intended to go to the game, it will have to deal with a group of unhappy fans.

People want their money back … and then some. I’m sure the NFL will make them jump through some hoops first.

Oh, and today is the 10th anniversary of Roger Goodell being named the commissioner. Fitting.

Before training camp started, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said Carson Wentz would likely be inactive at the start of the season. And now, roughly six weeks later, Wentz will be the Eagles’ starting quarterback Week 1.

Pederson announced Wentz will be Brandon Thomas Jersey under center when they take on the Cleveland Browns Sunday. The No. 2 overall pick suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs during Philadelphia’s preseason opener and didn’t return for the rest of the exhibition slate. Despite that, Pederson says he feels Wentz is ready to step in and start.

Wentz was enjoying his day off when he heard the news that he will start this week:

“He’s not ready, but he’s really, really Calvin Johnson Jersey made significant progress,” the Rams coach said. “He’s much better now than he was when we started.”

That’s elite coachspeak.

But Goff will get it turned around, right? The Rams can afford to be patient, right?

Here’s the problem. Who on the team’s coaching staff has any experience developing quarterbacks? Fisher’s history with quarterbacks is abysmal. The offensive coordinator is a tight ends coach. Quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke has experience working with preparing draft picks at IMG Academy, but he’s never coached a quarterback in the NFL.

Underscoring the coaching issue is the fact that Goff comes from an Air Raid offense in college, and Air Raid quarterbacks have not had much success in the NFL.

Worse, outstanding preseason play from Dak Prescott, a fourth-round pick, and Paxton Lynch, late first round, has overshadowed the first and second overall picks in the draft. It’s still too early to judge Goff’s career and the trade the Rams made to get him, but it’s not off to a very good start.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford left the field after suffering a bruised left hand in the second quarter of Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers. He was briefly replaced by backup Shaun Hill, but Bradford did return to the game.

Bradford briefly Hunter Henry Jersey went to the locker room for X-rays, but returned to the sideline shortly after. The injury was to his non-throwing hand.

The Vikings didn’t take long to turn the reins of the offense over to Bradford. On Sunday, the team made the veteran quarterback the team’s starter for its Week 2 showdown against the Packers.

Brissett finished the day having completed six of nine passes for 92 yards, and while Miami did force a huge momentum swing late in the game with three scores, Brissett did enough to keep the Patriots from losing.

New England’s defense Jacoby Jones Jersey helped. The Patriots had been opportunistic throughout the game, finishing with two picks and two forced fumbles. At the end of the game, Patriots safety Duron Harmon intercepted Ryan Tannehill in the end zone, preventing a score that could have allowed the Dolphins to send the game to overtime.

After the game, Bill Belichick said he thought Brissett filled in well.

“Jacoby, he’s been working for this for a long time,” Belichick said. “All the way back in the spring, all the way through training camp … he did a good job.”

Early reports suggest that Garoppolo did not suffer a fracture, but he continued to undergo tests to determine the extent of the injury. AC joint injuries can usually be managed with painkillers, and a player’s ability to take the field is often dependent upon his pain tolerance. The fact that the Patriots have such a quick turnaround this week make this injury more of a challenge for New England.

The Patriots will need to bring in another quarterback to back up Brissett while Garoppolo recovers. Tom Brady will return from his Deflategate suspension following Week 4 and should be back on the field in Week 5 when the Patriots face the Cleveland Browns.

Menu For years, William Hillar’s tales about his exploits as Army Green Beret and a puffed up resume helped him land jobs teaching counterterrorism and drug and human trafficking interdiction, but the scheme has now earned him 21 months federal prison. Hillar, 66, of Millersville, pleaded guilty to wire fraud earlier this Jordan Clarkson Jersey year and was sentenced Tuesday U.S. District Court. He must pay $170 restitution to the law enforcement and first responder organizations and schools that hired him believing that he had spent 28 years the U.S. Special Forces, reaching the rank of colonel. His scheme started to unravel when a skeptical veteran emailed members of the Special Forces community to if anyone knew of Hillar, former Green Beret Hinton testified Tuesday. Hillar’s story was suspicious because there were only a handful of colonels during the period Hillar claimed to have served, he said.

Hinton, whose Professional Soldiers social networking site for Special Forces members has become a clearinghouse for people checking on possible fraudsters, filed Freedom of Information requests. When he learned that U.S. Special Operations had not heard of Hillar, he decided to expose him and warn the organizations that had hired him, he said. The training he was giving them would most likely put people at risk, he said. Basically it’s worthless. While Green Beret impostors are not uncommon, Hinton called Hillar the most prodigious fraud he has come across, noting that this case is the first he has seen result jail time. Hillar’s trading on a reputation that’s forged blood is reprehensible, dishonorable and disrespectful to those who have served and died, he said. Hillar was paid more than $170 by state and local organizations across the country and the federal government — including the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground, FBI College and various local divisions of the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian Affairs — to teach, lead seminars or speak since 1998, according to his plea agreement. Prosecutor Wise argued for a prison term on the higher end of the sentencing guidelines, as a deterrent to others: 27 months. Hillar not only endangered first responders with worthless information, he also displaced qualified trainers, Wise said. Wise played a recording of Hillar’s introduction at the Monterey Institute of Studies which Hillar tells the audience he was fortunate to be the military for 28 years. I have been trained as a terrorist, he said, explaining that American would consider him a freedom fighter, but to enemy the Balkans or elsewhere he would be a terrorist. He said he was adviser Laos during the Vietnam War, spent time drug interdiction central America, trained with U.S. Special Forces’ British, German and Israeli counterparts and spent time training mujahedeen during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, becoming adrenaline junkie. I like the rush that you get, or at least that I get, he said. But he told the audience that his life came with a price: His morals were compromised and he ended up counseling. The only thing true about this is that he compromised his value system and his morality. The victims this thought they were getting `Black Hawk Down,’ Wise said, referring to a book and movie depicting real-life experiences the Battle of Mogadishu Somalia. Instead they got `Rambo’ — a fiction. Hillar told the judge he takes full responsibility, apologized and said he has had to admit to himself that he is a fraud. He told the judge that people just assumed that he had a background with Special Forces. I never denied it and after years I actually adopted it, he said. I know that was wrong and I apologize. I didn’t do it for the money and believe it or not, I’m a patriot. Hillar also portrayed himself as a human trafficking expert whose daughter was kidnapped and killed by sex traffickers. He said the movie Taken was based on his search for his daughter. Monterey even held essay contest with cash prizes memory of the daughter, whom prosecutors said was not kidnapped and is alive. Public Defender Gary, who argued for a sentence of time served — Hillar spent six weeks a maximum security prison — and probation, said Hillar was a teacher at heart and his teaching style involved storytelling. He just could not resist embroidering himself into those tales, told Quarles. He needed to be the hero.

EAST LANSING — Most any coach tell you that one play never decides a game, but there’s no doubt that some plays prove bigger than others college football. That has certainly been the case for Michigan State, which was on both sides of big plays 2014 en route to 11 campaign that was accentuated by a stunning comeback the Spartans’ 42 Cotton Bowl win over Baylor. There were at least 13 pivotal fourth-quarter moments the Danny Ainge Jersey Cotton Bowl and if one were to look close enough they’d likely multiple occasions most every contest where a game could have turned. Some plays stand out more than others when reviewing Michigan State’s 2014 : MSU led Oregon 27 with 6 minutes left the third quarter when Mariota took a snap facing third-and-11 at the Ducks’ 41 yard-line.

The Spartans sent all three linebackers on a blitz out of a alignment, and all three had the opportunity to sack Mariota. But he side-stepped Darien, stepped out of Bullough’s tackle attempt and sped away from a lunging before shoveling a pass to for 17 yards. Five plays later, Oregon scored a touchdown, sparking a 28 game-ending run. The Spartans appeared on the verge of squandering a 27 lead before Waynes intercepted a Tommy Armstrong pass at the David Lee Jersey MSU 17-yard line with 30 seconds left. Waynes’ interception sealed a 27 victory which Michigan State held Nebraska to 47 yards rushing on 37 attempts after the Huskers entered the night No. 2 the nation with 354 yards rushing per game. Michigan State held a 38 lead entering the fourth quarter West Lafayette, Ind., but a Connor Cook interception and a failed fake punt brought the Boilermakers to the verge of a comeback. The Spartans were leading 38 when Purdue quarterback Appleby faced a third-and-8 from his own 20-yard line, a potential game-tying drive on the line. Instead, Shilque Calhoun and brought pressure, and Appleby forced a pass that intercepted and returned for a touchdown to clinch the victory. Cook is always on the lookout for slights, and the Wolverines didn’t make it hard for him Oct. 25 when they drove a tent spike into the Spartan Stadium turf shortly before kickoff.

Cook, who later said he was offended by the tent spike incident, tucked the football on the Spartans’ opening drive and sprinted for the end zone. At the 5-yard line, Cook lowered his shoulder and ran over Wolverines’ safety Delano Hill, setting the tone for a physically dominant MSU win. Michigan State had just taken a 28 lead over the eventual national champions with 3 left the second quarter the Nov. 8 meeting at Spartan Stadium — or it appeared. A pivotal yellow flag lay on the turf. All-American center Jack was called for holding, which negated Langford’s 11-yard TD run on a third-and-three. The next three plays proved pivotal: Cook threw incomplete on third-and-13, Geiger missed a 39-yard field goal, and the Buckeyes scored on a 79-yard slant pass on the first play of their ensuing drive to tie the game at 21 and flip the momentum. Shelton’s return gave Michigan State early momentum and provided a lift to the Spartans’ special teams units heading into the postseason. Was it Keith Mumphery’s go-ahead TD grab with 22 seconds left, or Tony Lippett’s fourth-down grab with 37 seconds left? Maybe Mumphery’s 50-yarder at the start of the fourth quarter that sparked the offense? Or maybe it was Marcus Rush’s field goal block, or RJ Williamson’s 36-yard return of the block? Lawrence ‘ sack the final seconds? Whichever New Year’s Day play at AT&T Stadium was your favorite, it’s safe to say Michigan State’s 42 victory — after trailing 41 entering the fourth quarter — go down as one of the Spartans’ greatest victories of all time.
